This week\u2019s memory verse is powerful.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>Hebrews 1:1-2 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/sup>but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The\u00a0significance of this verse is discovered as you\u00a0work through the details of Hebrews 1:1-2. \u00a0<\/span>This passage demonstrates how\u00a0crucial Christ is to your life. <\/span>This section of Scripture is RICH IN THEOLGOY, and because it is so theologically rich we are taking the time to break it down piece by piece so that you see exactly what the author of Hebrews is stating. Below You will notice the passage is broken down into three sections. Sectioning a verse is a great way to help us memorize it.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n SECTION 1<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Long Ago-<\/em><\/strong> At the time the Author of Hebrews is writing, God had not given a message to the Jews for Hundreds of years. Therefore for them, a message from God was long ago. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n At Many times<\/em><\/strong>– In the past God spoke <\/em>several times through prophets over a span of a few years, and sometimes God would speak but a few times through the prophets over the span of hundreds of years.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n In Many ways<\/em><\/strong>– When God would speak through the prophets he would do so through several means. He would use dreams, bushed, visions, angels, lights, voices, and even plagues.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n God Spoke to our Fathers by the prophets<\/em><\/strong>– in the past, If you wanted to hear a direct message from God it came through the prophets. They were considered God’s mouth piece<\/p>\n Hebrews 1:1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets<\/span><\/em><\/strong>. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n SECTION 2<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n But<\/em><\/strong>– This conjunction word is a key word to undertand this passage. It helps us recognize a change in what has happened with what is about to happen. Rather than speak through the prophets, this word “but” helps us see that God is going to do something different.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n In these last days he has spoken to us by his Son<\/em><\/strong>– Sometimes we can look at the phrase \u201cLast days\u201d and start thinking about the \u201cend times\u201d. However, this was not the author\u2019s primary\u00a0intent. His intent was to help us understand the significance of Jesus. The word \u201cLast\u201d is used to identify the significance of\u00a0message the Hebrews Author is sharing. This is the LAST message. The Last is always the End. We don\u2019t look for any other. It message stops with Jesus because Jesus is all we need. In fact all past messages were intended to ultimately point us to Jesus. The author of Hebrews Goes on to explain why Jesus is all we need through the rest of Verse 2 and into verse 3. In fact, Hebrews 1:1-2 sets up the entire book that explains why Jesus is all you need!<\/p>\n but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son,<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n SECTION 3<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Whom he appointed heir of all things-<\/em><\/strong> Jesus is the ruler. He is in the seat of power. Just in case the reader is wondering what happened to Christ after the crucifixion, this statement clears up any question. He is ruler, and He upholds all things by his power.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Through whom also he created the world<\/em><\/strong>– Jesus created all things. I don\u2019t think the authors intent is to get specific on Jesus\u2019s creative work as Deity, but verse 3 goes on to tell us \u201che is the radiance of God and the exact representation of him\u201d. This is only possible if you are God. The author of Hebrews will use the rest of the book to explain the authority of Christ as the Final Prophet, Priest and King. \u00a0<\/span>Colossians 1:15-17 and 2:9 parallel this passage as it identifies the authority of Jesus as deity.<\/p>\n\n
